A US Mint photo of the packaging and the five 2014 America the Beautiful Quarters (in a lens) from its new proof set Released Tuesday and on sale for $14.95 is the 2014 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set™. It is the fourth annually issued proof set of its kind, with the first released in 2010, and it has this year’s five newly designs quarters produced to a shiny proof finish by the United States Mint facility in San Francisco. In the 2014 set and protected by a clear plastic lens are the five America the Beautiful Quarters depicting: Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Tennessee) Shenandoah National Park (Virginia) Arches National Park (Utah) Great Sand Dunes National Park (Colorado) Everglades National Park (Florida) These are the 21st through 25th sites honored in the quarter series with 56 scheduled releases between 2010 and 2021. Each quarter has or will have a unique reverse design emblematic of one national park/site found in each U.S. state, D.C. and each U.S. Territory. This year’s five quarter designs were revealed by the United States Mint in November. Main design elements for each coin include: a segment of the lush green forest and hawk circling above (Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarter) a day hiker taking in the view from Little Stony Man summit (Shenandoah National Park quarter) Delicate Arch, a 65-foot freestanding natural arch (Arches National Park quarter) a father and son playing in the sand next to the creek bed (Great Sand Dunes National Park quarter) an anhinga with outstretched wings on a willow tree with a roseate spoonbill visible in the mid-ground (Everglades National Park quarter) These same designs will find their way into circulation for commerce when circulating versions of the coins launch throughout 2014. The first quarter, depicting Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is scheduled for circulation release on January 27. To order the five-coin proof set or other coin collecting product from the Mint, visit its website at www.usmint.gov . { 0 comments } 2014 Civil Rights Act of 1964 Commemorative Coins by Coin Collecting News on January 4, 2014 Commemorative coins celebrating the semicentennial of the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 are now available from the United States Mint, as authorized under Public Law 110-451. 2014 Civil Rights Act of 1964 Commemoraive Coins – Proof and Uncirculated On Thursday, January 2, 2014, the US Mint starting accepting orders for two different coin collecting products honoring the anniversary with another "Tell Your Story Set" product coming later in the year. The two 90% silver commemorative coins and their beginning prices are: the 2014 Civil Rights Act of 1964 Uncirculated Silver Dollar for $44.95 the 2014 Civil Rights Act of 1964 Proof Silver Dollar for $49.95 The US Mint describes these prices as "introductory" and lasting until February 3 at 3 p.m. ET. Prices will then rise to their "regular" level, which is $5 higher. Lower intro pricing for commemorative coins has been a practice of the US Mint for at least the last couple of years. Also, the US Mint is required by Public Law 110-451 to include a $10 surcharge for each coin sold that will go to the United Negro College Fund. The prices above include the surcharge amount. Silver dollar obverses (heads) depict three people holding hands at a civil rights march with one of them having a sign reading "We Shall Overcome." The image is emblematic of the marches that helped galvanize the civil rights movement. Inscriptions are 2014, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST . Silver dollar reverses (tails) show three flames intertwined to symbolize the freedom of education, freedom to vote and freedom to control one’s destiny. This design was inspired by the Martin Luther King, Jr. quote: "They get the fire hose. They fail to realize that water can only put out physical fire. But water can never drown the fire of freedom." Inscriptions around the image are CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964, SIGNED INTO LAW JULY 2, 1964, EPLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The reverse side of the proof silver dollar has a special combination of finishes In further design details for the reverse, the proof silver dollar is enhanced with multiple finishes — a combination described as a first by the Mint. The reverse of the uncirculated silver dollar does not have the special multiple finish treatment. The obverse was designed by Justin Kunz and engraved by Phebe Hemphill. The reverse was designed by Donna Weaver and engraved by Jim Licaretz. For more information about the coins or to order them or any other coin collecting product from the US Mint, visit their online site at www.usmint.gov . There are no household ordering limits for these two commemorative coins but there is an overall mintage limit of 350,000 across all production options. As for the upcoming "Civil Rights Act of 1964 Tell Your Story Set," there is little information about it at this point. A coin news release from the US Mint described the set as having a space to let a person "reflect on their participation in the events leading up to, or how they have been affected by, the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964." These coins represent one of two commemorative programs from the United States Mint in 2014. Later in the year it will also issue curved shaped 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemoratives Coins in 50-cent clad, silver dollar and $5 gold versions. { 1 comment } Sales Ending for Some 2012-2013 Coin Collecting Products by Coin Collecting News on December 31, 2013 Less than a half day remains until some of the coin collecting products from the United States Mint permanently go off sale, making way for 2014 coins and products . A section of the US Mint’s Last Chance Products Page At Noon ET today, December 31, 2013, all 2013 commemorative coins and products with them will no longer be sold since the law authorizing the coins permits sales by the Mint for this calendar year only. 2013 commemorative coins feature designs of 5-Star Generals and Girl Scouts of the USA. Three of the commemorative coins have sold out since the bureau first announced its last chance sale on the 6th of December. One of them, the 2013 Uncirculated 5-Star Generals Half Dollar from the Denver Mint, appears like it will register as a mintage low for all modern U.S. half-dollar commemorative coins. Its last reported US Mint sales total (as of December 22) was at 35,813. Other coin collecting products that will no longer be available include the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, the 2012 American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin and the seven 2012 First Spouse Gold Coins with designs honoring Alice Paul, Frances Cleveland — first and second term, and Caroline Harrison. Collectors can place orders for the last chance products online at www.usmint.gov/catalog . Look for the "Last Chance" menu that is located on the left side of the website. Kicking off the New Year on January 2, 2014 is the 2014 Civil Rights Act of 1964 Proof Silver Dollars. The proof version will be $44.95 and the uncirculated version will be $44.95. These are introductory prices. The US Mint already has product pages for these collectibles on its website. More information about them on Coin Collecting News will be available soon. { 0 comments } US Mint 2014 Coin Collecting Products by Coin Collecting News on December 22, 2013 Collectors can now plan ahead for what coin collecting products...
